“Nurses Together with Women in Breast Cancer Prevention and Early Diagnosis” Named Awareness Events were Organised

With the cooperation of our University Faculty of Nursing, Gazi University Health Practice and Research Center and Oncology Nursing Association Breast Care Nursing Commission, the awareness events titled ‘Nurses Together with Women in Breast Cancer Prevention and Early Diagnosis’ were held on 30 October 2024 at Gazi University Health Practice and Research Center Gazi Hospital garden and on 31 October 2024 at the University Rectorate Campus Pooled Garden.
In the events held at Gazi Hospital and Rectorate Campus; Oncology Nursing Association Breast Care Nursing Commission member and Surgical Diseases Nursing Department faculty member Prof. Dr. Sevil Güler and Dr. Lecturer Nevra Kalkan, faculty members Research Assistants. Prof. Dr. Sevil Güler and Dr. Lecturer Nevra Kalkan, lecturers Res. Assist. Burcu Opak Yücel and Assist. Assist. Keziban Öztürk; Oncology Nursing Association Breast Care Nursing Commission Coordinator Figen Bay, Gazi University Health Application and Research Centre Chemotherapy Unit Nurses Firdevs Gül, Betül Yücelkan and Deniz Yalçın, Lifelong Awareness Community members and 3rd year students of the Faculty of Nursing took active roles. Nurses working at Gazi University Health Research and Application Centre, healthy individuals, patients, university staff and students showed great interest in the activities. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Necdet Hayta, Prof. Dr. Hasan Tezer, Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen, Secretary General Mustafa Afşar and Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Prof. Dr. Sultan Ayaz Alkaya also visited the event held in the Pooled Garden of the Rectorate Campus.
Patients and healthy individuals, university staff and students participating in the event were informed about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer, risk factors, symptoms signs, early diagnosis, regular check-ups, prevention and awareness with mammography, and how to perform breast self-examination on the model was shown practically. Participants were given pink ribbons as a sign of breast cancer awareness and hand printing activity was carried out with pink paint. Participants gave feedback that their knowledge on many issues related to breast cancer increased, that they found answers to their questions and that the event was very useful.
