Department of Child Health and Diseases Nursing Pediatric Nursing Practice Laboratory
Pediatrics Nursing Practice Laboratory was established on September 19, 2016 in the Fall semester of 2016-2017 to improve the cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills of students and to ensure that nursing care is taught in a safe environment. It also provides students with a controlled clinical environment to develop teamwork, communication skills, awareness of roles and responsibilities, and critical thinking skills. Pediatric Nursing Practice Laboratory consists of two application areas. In the first application area, there is the simulation room and the control room used by the instructors, where student applications are observed and evaluated through mirror glass. In the second area, there is the practice room where standard patient practices, CPR practices, physical examination, scans, fluid-monitoring, case follow-up and drug applications are made.
Among the materials belonging to the Pediatric Nursing Practice Laboratory; 1 simulation model for 5-6 years old children, 1 infant simulation model, 2 stimulation kits (electronic hardware) and bedside monitor, 1 infant CPR model, 1 child CPR model, 1 child model, 2 0- 1 year old baby model, 1 newborn baby model, 1 premature baby model, 2 incubators and real hospital equipment and supplies (blood pressure monitor, stethoscope, stadiometer, scale, baby scale, Snellen and Snellen E test, Guthtrie papers, lancet, sponge, otoscope, light source, reflex hammer, drug and drug application materials). With the existing equipment, data collection from the child and his family, childhood screenings, pediatric physical examination, drug administration and fluid monitoring, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Heimclich Practice, all other care practices for pediatric nursing are performed. With case management practices, students are provided with the opportunity to develop teamwork, communication skills and critical thinking skills, as well as physical care of children and families.
The Pediatric Nursing Practice Laboratory offers training and research infrastructure with high-fidelity simulators, CPR models and many tests, tools and equipment used in physical examination. Within the scope of the "Child Health and Diseases Nursing" course, laboratory working hours are announced to the students by the relevant instructor/s, depending on the curriculum. The practice hours and working principles of the laboratory are detailed in the curriculum, practice rotations and information courses. One day before the first practice lesson, students are taken to the laboratory in groups of 8-10 and the laboratories and the materials to be used are introduced. Outside of class hours, students can work in the laboratory under the supervision of the instructor whenever they want.
