Mındfulness-Based Art Therapy Program For Our Students

One of the members of the Psychosocial Counseling Commission of our faculty, Department of Mental Health and Diseases Nursing, Lecturer Dr. Nurcan DÜZGÜN and Assist. Prof. Dr Feride ERCAN conducted a “Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy” program focused on critical thinking and self-confidence in nursing students between 08.05.-02.07.2024. A total of 26 students from different classes participated in the eight-session program with an average of 90 minutes each weekly. Various art therapy techniques such as “painting, photography, collage, play dough, sculpture from waste products, story, poetry, music, movement, imagination” were used in integration with mindfulness practices such as “awareness of the present moment, raisin activity, body scan, awareness of breath, mindful movement”. At the end of the program, it was determined that students' critical thinking and self-confidence levels increased.
